Our Family History Scrapbook - Building a Narrative
Stories + Research = History
These pages are the gathering place for the stories, images, and research that are the building blocks of our history. We're compiling a Family History Scrapbook in three volumes as follows:

-
Volume 1 - Articles
-
Volume 2 - Photos
-
Volume 3 - Autographs

Below you'll find the index and articles comprising Volume 1, with plenty of room for the stories and research we hope to add!

Karl P. Schmidt, Naturalist
Karl Patterson Schmidt (1895-1957) was a renowned naturalist and herpetologist, as well as a prolific explorer, author, and teacher throughout his life. Beginning his career at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, he moved to Chicago's Field Museum in 1922, and eventually became its Chief Curator of Zoology from 1941 to 1955. He is best remembered, however, for keeping a detailed scientific diary of his symptoms as he ultimately died from the bite of an African boomslang snake.

Harrison H. Schmitt, PhD, geologist, astronaut, and former United States Senator from New Mexico. Senator
Schmitt, a Hatten descendant, was one of the last two astronauts to walk on the moon.
