George Schmitt was born Jan 3, 1829 to Friedrich Schmitt and Jeannette May Schmitt. He emigrated with his family from Hatten, Alsace to Columbus, Ohio. He fought in the Mexican War (1847) in the same company (Otto Zirckel's) as his older brother Frederick Schmitt. According to the oral history, sh
